ABOUT

During the summer of 2014, Max worked as a mechanical engineering intern at Arup.  Here, he performed a variety of engineering tasks, mainly developing energy/load simulation models, while working on a 4-square-mile city being developed in Saudi Arabia.  From January 2015 through the end of July 2015, Max worked as a student intern for HGA Architects and Engineers.  He successfully led the mechanical design process for smaller projects such as an MRI replacement and medical exam room additions, as well as worked on a team for the design of an archival facility.

Outside of academics, Max has been involved in various student organizations at Penn State, both in and out of AE.  As a 2nd-year student in 2012, Max was a placement officer for the Student Partnership for Achieving Construction Excellence (S:PACE), where he networked with companies in the AE industry to set up info sessions on campus.  During the 2013-14 school year, Max served as President of Engineering House (E-House), a residence hall on campus, where he oversaw all academic and social activities for the 300-student dorm as well as networked with faculty and industry sponsors to hold special events.  Max’s other interests include audio engineering/recording, and playing violin and jazz guitar.

Max Utain is a 5th-year student at The Pennsylvania State University studying Architectural Engineering in the mechanical option.  In May of 2016, Max will graduate with a Bachelor and Master of Architectural Engineering as well as obtain Engineer in Training (EIT) status.  During his time at Penn State, Max has earned three scholarships: the Michael and Virginia Youchak Endowed Scholarship in AE in 2013, and the Herbert Duffield LLC Scholarship in 2014 and 2015.  After graduation, Max plans to work full-time as a mechanical engineer for an engineering consulting or A/E firm and obtain his Professional Engineering (PE) license.
